"Mannequin" is one of the decade's funniest and most charming comedies, but did you know that SAMANTHA JONES is also...

Storyline of Mannequin

A struggling artist named Jonathan Switcher spends all of his time hopping about from one job with little prospects to the next. The moment he realizes he has feelings for the mannequin he has been working on, everything in his life is thrown upside down. He now considers himself a genuine artist despite the fact that this is the very first thing he's ever made.

When Jonathan visits the department store Prince & Company, he is shocked to see that the mannequin is prominently exhibited in the store's front window. After he was credited with saving the life of the elderly neighbor of the business's owner, he was offered a job at the store as a stock boy. The mannequin breaks apart, and out of it rises Ema "Emmy" Hesire, an ancient Egyptian princess who lived in the year 2514 BC. She is a femme fatale who is both stunning and vivacious, and she is the one who encouraged Jonathan to become the best window dresser in town. Emmy comes to the conclusion that the actual world does not live up to her expectations as they run across adversaries who are after them.

Reviews of Mannequin

One of the most enjoyable comedies of the 1980s

The young Ema "Emmy" Hesire, played by Kim Cattrall, lives in Edfu, which is located in ancient Egypt. She is decades ahead of her time. She expresses a desire to travel to the future and then disappears after her mother makes attempts to force her to wed a manure dealer.

Jonathan Switcher, played by Andrew McCarthy, is a young, idealistic artist who lives in the current day in the state of Pennsylvania. He constructs a mannequin. On the other hand, he is incompetent and unable to keep his jobs, and his ambitious girlfriend Roxie, played by Carole Davis, breaks up with him. However, Jonathan notices that his mannequin is displayed in the window of the department store Prince & Company.

The following morning, he saves the life of Ms. Claire Timkin (Estelle Getty), who is the owner of the Prince & Co. She then asks the crooked manager Richards (James Spader) to give Jonathan the position in the stock after he saves her life. The Prince & Co. is on the verge of going out of business, and the Illustra Company has plans to buy it while simultaneously sabotaging the Department Store using Richards.

Jonathan's dream of Emmy coming back to life is realized, and the two of them create beautiful window arrangements. Soon after, Jonathan is given the opportunity to work as a window dresser alongside Meshach Taylor, a gay man from Hollywood Montrose who later becomes his friend. Soon after, Jonathan will be promoted to the position of vice president due to his success as a designer and his utilization of the Prince & Co. On the other hand, the General Manager of Illustra, Roxie, and Richards are planning to kidnap Emmy and force Jonathan to work for Illustra.

One of my all-time favorite movies is "Mannequin," and I cannot even begin to count the number of times that I have seen it. Both Andrew McCarthy and Kim Cattrall had a lot of success in the 1980s, and Kim Cattrall is widely regarded as one of the loveiest actresses in the history of Hollywood. Meshach Taylor is hilarious in the role of a gay window dresser, and the excellent James Spader plays the part of Richards in a manner that verges on the caricature. The end product is one of the decade's most wonderful and hilarious comedies to emerge from it. The musical accompaniment is also excellent. The IMDb User rating does not, unfortunately, reflect the reality of this amazing and romantic dream.

Romantic comedy-fantasy with a twist

No doubt, "Mannequin" is a ridiculous film. However, I thought it was hilarious at times. In 1987, I was a precocious adolescent seeing this film for the first time. As a family, we had a great time laughing together at this film. So what if it isn't a classic? The only thing that counts is that it's a good time, and this certainly is. An unlucky worker is played by Andrew McCarthy in this film.

To be a sculptor is his dream job. For some reason, he appears to fall in love with the mannequin he constructed in his previous work. A few years later, while working at a department shop, he meets a woman who works there with the mannequin. It doesn't take long until the mannequin transforms into a beautiful Egyptian princess. When the two are alone together, she comes to life... She freezes and reverts to a mannequin form when someone else enters the scene. I don't care if this seems like a ridiculous idea.

In "Mannequin," you'll have a great time. It's hardly a riot of laughter, but I found myself chuckling often. I would have a great time if I were Andrew McCarthy and Kim Cattrall (the mannequin) were having a good time. In addition to Estelle Getty (from "The Golden Girls"), James Spader (in a role from his early career), G.W. Bailey (from the "Police Academy" films), and Meshach Taylor (from "Designing Women"), the supporting cast also features Estelle Getty as Mrs. Timkin, the store's friendly owner, and James Spader as the smarmy manager (who works at a rival department store nearby). It's time for everyone to partake in the fun of "Mannequin." The composition of this image is rather pleasing.

She's the dummy!

To be enjoyable, a film does not require excellent acting, a gripping plot, or visually stunning VFX. That's what this film demonstrates. Compared to other films, Mannequin isn't a very notable achievement in cinema. However, the film's simplicity and sense of humor are what make it really unique.' Watching this movie on a Saturday afternoon with my family and friends has always been one of my favorite past times since I was a kid.

Jonathan Switcher is a struggling musician and artist. Because he can't manage his inherent ingenuity, he can't hold down a regular job. In return for his assistance to an old lady one day, he is hired by her department store. While setting up the store's window displays, Jonathan comes upon a mannequin he built during one of his many short-lived jobs. When the two are alone with the mannequin he constructed, a romantic comedy ensues.

Even though the story is absurd and full of contradictions, the movie is a blast to see. Kim Cattrall and Andrew McCarthy are amusing as usual as the cheery mannequin. The musical montage is a throwback to the 80s, and the one-liners and circumstances are amusing. The music for this film is wonderful, yet there was never a soundtrack album released! You should be ashamed of yourselves!

A work of art in and of itself, As Mannequin is neither thought-provoking nor clever nor cinematically beautiful. This is a lighthearted comedy with plenty of laughs to spare if you don't take it too seriously.
